Book Birthdays & The Hunger Games Cast!

There are a lot of books with birthdays today, but three stand out above the pack for me. I can't wait to get my own copies of each and start reading!

Happy Book Birthday

SCOOT'S HUNGER GAMES CAST RAMBLINGS

I know you have seen a lot of pics and heard a lot of talk about the cast, but I can't resist adding to it.

I am actually ok with the cast chosen - In a perfect world a cast closer to the ages and descriptions of the characters in the books would have been great, but finding kids with decent acting chops is difficult. I would prefer the actors can ACT rather than look perfect for the role.

 Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss
I have never seen her acting, but I have heard she does a decent job... lets hope so because this movie pretty much is going to make or break on her skills.  Also, not too worried about her being blonde - hair dye anyone? Easy cheesy. My one beef with her is her age/body type, I am not sure how well she can pull off a scrawny (from lack of food, remember that Katniss was hungry) 16 year old.  I hope this doesn't mean they are going to be changing the ages around...

Liam Hemsworth as Gale
When put next to Jennifer I can totally see why they went with Liam as Gale. In the novel Gale and Katniss are similar enough in coloring/body type where they could be mistaken for siblings or cousins.  I can see how Liam and Jennifer could pull that off... and also, Blonde = an easy fix with some hair dye.  I have seen him in one movie and he did a decent job, so I think it will turn out ok.  Honestly, Gale doesn't have a lot of face time in the first book, so his acting won't be needed all that much - if he can pull off sad, scared and angry he can pull off the first movie.  One the other hand, how his skills will hold up as we work our way into the third movie/book is another story...

Josh Hutcherson as Peeta
I actually like Josh a lot for Peeta - I think he is a good actor (I have seen him in a handful of movies) and he has been acting for a long time.  He also has the body type/build I imagined for Peeta.  Obviously his hair is not blonde, but that is once again an easy fix.  I think he is the best pick between the three lead actors and I am glad they went with Josh as it gives me a little hope for the film where I was otherwise doubting.

What are your thoughts on the cast?

squee! It's becoming real! i'm so happy! I agree with the peeta choice, katniss seems pretty good, and Gale i can live with (didn't matter too much for me, as long as he was hot). Peeta and Katniss were HUGE for me and I am pleased ^__^ Thanks for sharing!

I have to confess I don't know any of these actors, but I can accept them as the cast, especially Peeta with dyed hair. I'm not too worried if they're a few years older than their characters because actors tend to pass for younger than they really are. (I had seen the *perfect* Katniss on TV last year, but I don't know her name, and she had a strong Scottish accent.)

I was a little taken aback at the casting of Gale and Peeta. But after reading this, I'm kind of.. okay with it. As long as they don't botch the movie itself, I'll take anything. XD But I liked your reasoning for Gale.
