Synopsis (via Goodreads): I noticed his eyes. They were blue, sharp and intense. Despite the youthful glows of his suntanned face, his eyes were cold and unfriendly, suggesting he had great experience in the world and was now expecting the worst.
In her seventeenth year, Princess Alera of Hytanica faces one duty: to marry the man who will be king. But her father's choice of suitor fills her with despair.
When the palace guard captures and intruder—a boy her age with steel-blue eyes, hailing from her kingdom's greatest enemy—Alera is alarmed…and intrigued. But she could not have guessed that their clandestine meetings would unveil the dark legacy shadowing both their lands.
In this mystical world of court conspiracies and blood magic, loyalties will be tested. Courage won't be enough. And as the battle begins for everything Alera holds dear, love may be the downfall of a kingdom.
Scoot’s Review:
Princess Alera is approaching the age where she will be forced to marry a man of her father’s choosing. Her father has only one young man for the succession in mind and Alera can’t stand him. However, things start to change for Alera when a mysterious boy from an opposing Kingdom is captured and she is able to spend some time with him. I had to wait a long time before writing this review so I could think about it a little more logically instead of emotionally. I found this story to be an utter frustration. Alera was a character that I could never get behind. She was in serious need of a backbone and she was very quick to betray those around her. I was not a fan. As for pacing, the beginning of the story was a little slow but after about 200 pages things got a little more exciting. However, in the end I just didn’t enjoy the book. The writing was fine; the medieval world that was created was intriguing and nothing felt choppy. It seemed like the plot had a lot of potential, yet the characterization just killed it for me. There were a few characters with decent and strong personalities, like London and Narian who I enjoyed, but Alera was the lead and we were stuck with her weak choices the entire novel. I kept hoping Alera would grow a backbone only to be let down. I was so frustrated by the end of this novel that I wish I had not ever read it – which doesn’t happen all too often with me! I personally didn’t appreciate Legacy, but to be fair there are a lot of high reviews for it online so don’t just take my word for it.

Seeing I got a mountain of TBR waiting for me, I don't think I would waste my time picking up this book. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion!! :)
Thanks for your honest review. I also have a large tbr pile so I won't need to waste time on something that isn't that great. I usually fall for the characters first then the storyline so if the characters are flat I'll never be interested.
Thanks for the review. This one is on my TBR list, and I think I'll probably read it, but it's moving down my list if I do.
I've heard it the main character has ruined it for other people. It's amazing that you were able to notice the other good things about it. I wanted to read this but it's moved down my list. Thanks for the great review!
