Pull on your bobby socks for the Book Blogger Hop!

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly event hosted by Crazy For Books!

Book Blogger Hop
"This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!"

This week's question is:

"Do you ever wish you would have named your blog something different?"

I do on occasion which I had come up with something more clever for my blog. I just randomly chose my blog title one night on the fly... but generally I am happy with it!  I blog under a nickname (a nickname I have had since I was a toddler) and the anonymous-ness is fun, but at times I wish I had just used my actual name.  One of these days I might switch it, but for now I plan to keep everything the way it is!

ps. If you are just hopping by don't forget to check out my giveaway here! It ends today and currently has low entries.

 How about you?

Hunted by the Others

Author: Jess Haines
Genre: Adult – Paranormal/Mystery
Publication Date: May 1, 2010
Age Range: Adult
Pages:  337
Date Scoot Read: February 2011
Source
: Nook Book

Scoot's Rating: 8- Really good!

Synopsis (via Goodreads)
: They are the Others-the vampires, mages, and werewolves once thought to exist only in our imaginations. Now they're stepping out of the shadows, and nothing in our world will ever be the same again...
In A Town Like This, Being A P.I. Can Be Murder
Shiarra Waynest's detective work was dangerous enough when her client base was strictly mortal. But ailing finances have forced her to accept a lucrative case that could save her firm-if it doesn't kill her first. Shiarra has signed on to work for a high-level mage to recover an ancient artifact owned by one of New York's most powerful vampires.
As soon as Shiarra meets sexy, mesmerizing vamp Alec Royce, she knows her assignment is even more complicated than she thought. With a clandestine anti-Other group trying to recruit her, and magi being eliminated, Shiarra needs back-up and enlists her ex-boyfriend-a werewolf whose non-furry form is disarmingly appealing-and a nerdy mage with surprising talents. But it may not be enough. In a city where the undead roam, magic rules, and even the Others aren't always what they seem, Shiarra has just become the secret weapon in a battle between good and evil-whether she likes it or not...

Scoot’s Review:
Shiarra spends her life trying to avoid Others.  Her ex-boyfriend was an ‘Other’ – hence the ex. However, when her PI business is about to tank financially Shiarra is desperate enough to take a case that puts her right into the middle of a deadly fight between the Others.  Shiarra is quickly in over her curly-red-100% human-head and has to hastily adapt to the changing world around her.  Her perspective changes as she learns that the Others aren’t always so ‘Other’, and she learns some new skills while being forced into situations she may or may not be able to survive.  This was a fun read; I liked the world created for the story and I liked Shiarra.  Shiarra felt like a pretty down to earth and “normal” person.  Yes - she can be tough when she needs to be, but at the same time she is often scared stiff – much like I imagined I would be in the same situation.  The tension (in all forms) felt real and the story was fast paced.  I was happy with the ending; although once the main plotline was finished the story seemed to wrap up a little quickly. Overall it was a great read and I look forward to getting started on the sequel!

Waiting on Wednesday (24)

Time for the"Waiting On Wednesday" weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine.

Waiting on Wednesday spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

City of Orphans by Avi

To be Published: September 6th 2011 by Atheneum/Richard Jackson Books

The streets of 1893 New York are full of life: crowded, filthy, dangerous. If you are a newsboy like thirteen-year- old Maks Geless, you need to watch out for Bruno, leader of the Plug Ugly Gang whose shadowy, sinister boss is plotting to take control of all the newsies on the lower East Side. With Bruno’s boys in fierce pursuit, Maks discovers Willa, a strange girl who lives alone in an alley. It is she, stick in hand, who fights off the Plug Uglies--but further dangers await. Maks must find a way to free his sister Emma from The Tombs, the city jail where she has been imprisoned for stealing a watch at the glamorous new Waldorf Hotel. Maks, believing her innocent, has only four days to prove it. Fortunately, there is Bartleby Donck, the eccentric lawyer (among other employments) to guide Maks and Willa in the art of detection. Alive with the sights, the sounds of tenement New York, Maks, as boy detective, must confront a teeming world of wealth and crime, while struggling against powerful forces threatening new immigrants and the fabric of family love.

---------------

This book does not have a cover yet, but I think the synopsis sounds intriguing!  Oliver Twist meets The Newsies meets The Hardy Boys?  I vote yes.
What book are YOU waiting on?

The Iron Queen (ARC)

Author:  Julie Kagawa
Genre: Young Adult - Fantasy
Publication Date: January 25, 2011
Age Range: Young Adult
Pages:  358
Date Scoot Read: January 2011
Source
: eGalley from NetGalley & Harlequin Teen

Scoot's Rating
: 8- Really good!

Synopsis (via Goodreads)
:  My name is Meghan Chase.
I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back.

Scoot’s Review:
**Spoiler-warning for the previous Iron Fey novels!**
Having chosen a life of exile with Ash in the last book we join Meghan as she tries to return to her old life (with Ash in tow). Alas it was not meant to be.  Realizing that she can never truly return to her old life Meghan and Ash are forced to turn their attention to the Iron fey who are trying to destroy the Nevernever. Throughout their adventures Meghan comes across some startling and heartbreaking truths, but manages to come out on top despite her heartaches. In a rare moment of sanity, the Summer and Winter courts have agreed to work together to defeat the over-powerful false Iron King and Fey.  Running on borrowed time Meghan, Ash and Puck work together once again to save the world of Fey as they know it.  I really enjoyed this story and was happy to be reunited with the characters we loved from the last two books.  The romance and action were enthralling as usual and it was a well-paced read.  The story had a bittersweet feel, but with a strong tinge of hope.  I can’t wait to read The Iron Knight when it releases in November 2011 and I am holding out hopes for a “Summer Lackey” book since I am a huge sucker for Puck.

Outside In: Inside Out 2 (ARC)

Author: Maria V. Snyder
Genre: Young Adult – Dystopian/Science Fiction
Publication Date: March 1, 2011
Age Range: Young Adult
Pages:  320
Date Scoot Read: January 2011
Source
: eGalley from NetGalley & Harlequin Teen

Scoot's Rating: 8- Really good!

Synopsis (via Goodreads)
: Me? A Leader? Okay, I did prove that there's more to Inside than we knew. That a whole world exists beyond this cube we live in. And finding that led to a major rebellion - between worker scrubs like me and the snobby uppers who rule our world. Make that ruled. Because of me, we're free. I thought that meant I was off the hook, and could go off on my own again - while still touching base with Riley, of course. He's the one upper I think I can trust. But then we learned that there's outside and then there is Outside. And something from Outside wants In.

Scoot’s Review:

*spoilery warning for Inside Out if you have not read it yet!*
I was so excited to pick up an early review copy of Outside In.  I was ready to get back in touch with the characters that we loved from the first novel and to find out exactly how they reacted over time to the news of what Outside really was.  Even after the Sheep’s rebellion things are not all fun and games Inside.  Politics are keeping things rocky as repairs and procedures struggle to be completed under the new leadership.  Supposedly everyone is equal now, but is that really what is happening?  On top of this, the ship is being attacked from the Inside by its own people.  Trella wants nothing to do with the new leadership - she feels like she has done her job and can hand it off... Riley on the other hand feels Trella needs to step up and take charge.  Throw in some new faces and life gets complicated.  In the story we get to know established characters in a new way and we see Trella revert back a little to her selfish attitude.  However, when things get tough you know Trella can’t sit back and be idle.  The action is great in this and no one is safe from the dangers that abound Inside and Out.   The plot is filled with unexpected twists and new concepts that keep the story exciting. The romance hits a rough patch as Riley and Trella struggle with different goals.  Outside In is another great read and if you enjoyed Inside Out you will want to make sure and pick up this novel when it releases on March 1st, 2011! Needless to say I am now ready and waiting for the third book in this series.
